Why your Google profile matters locally

For a lot of local searches, the profile is the shortlist

Search for a service with a location attached, or search for it on a phone, and Google usually shows a small group of nearby businesses with their reviews, hours and photos before anything else. Most people choose from that group.

Your profile decides whether you're in it. It tells Google what you do, where you do it and how active and credible the business looks — and it gives customers enough to call you without visiting a website at all.

It's also the part of local search most often left half-finished: created once, never categorised properly, no services listed, no recent photos and no reviews since 2021.

What we can help with

The work involved in a profile that pulls its weight

  • Creation and setup

Creating an eligible new profile from scratch and setting the business information up correctly the first time.

  • Categories and services

Choosing the primary and secondary categories that match what you do, and listing your services properly.

  • Consistent information

Name, address, phone, hours and service areas kept identical across your profile and your website.

  • Descriptions that read well

Service and business descriptions written for customers, not stuffed with search terms.

  • Photos

Genuine photographs of your work, your premises and your team, added and refreshed over time.

  • Reviews

A sensible process for asking customers at the right moment, and help responding to what comes back.

  • Profile activity

Updates and posts where they're genuinely useful — a quiet profile looks like a quiet business.

  • Ongoing optimisation

Reviewing the profile each month alongside the website rather than setting it up and walking away.

  • Visibility tracking

Tracking how you appear for the agreed local searches, so changes to the profile can be judged on evidence.

Creating a profile from scratch

If you don't have a profile yet

Plenty of established businesses still don't have one — particularly trades that have always worked on word of mouth and social media. If you're eligible, we create it and set it up properly rather than leaving you a half-filled listing.

That means the right categories, complete business information, your services described in full, service areas set sensibly, opening hours, photographs of real work, and a link to the relevant pages on your website.

Google will usually ask you to verify the business yourself, and how it does that varies — sometimes a video, sometimes a postcard, sometimes a phone call. We'll prepare you for it and help you through it, but verification is Google's process and we can't promise the method or the outcome.

Optimising an existing profile

If you already have one

We start by reviewing what's there against what you actually do, then fix the things holding it back. In most cases the profile isn't broken — it's just incomplete and inconsistent with the website.

  • Categories reviewed against your real services and your competitors'
  • Missing services, descriptions, hours and attributes completed
  • Business details corrected so they match your site exactly
  • Photographs refreshed with genuine, recent work
  • Review activity restarted with a process you can actually keep up
  • Duplicate or outdated listings identified and dealt with

Website and profile alignment

The profile works better when the website backs it up

When your profile lists a service, the strongest thing you can do is point it at a page that covers that service in detail — the same wording, the same areas, the same information.

That's the part most businesses miss, and it's why we don't treat the profile as a standalone job. It's one half of the same local search system as the website, and we work on both together.

Local visibility tracking

How you'll know whether it's working

We agree a set of local searches with you and record where you stand before any changes are made. From there, progress is the movement in your average position across those searches, alongside what Google's own profile insights and Search Console show.

We won't promise Maps rankings — nobody can. What we will do is show you what changed, what moved, and what we're doing next.
